The Perodua World Golfers Championship 2012 is a world class golf tournament that begins with qualifying rounds at selected golf courses nationwide in search of the best five players to represent the national team in the World Golfers Championship – World Final which will be held in Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa from 27 October to 3 November 2012.

The tournament is designed to give amateur golfers the thrill and prestige of a global championship event receiving the same status as the professionals do, and to experience the proud feeling of representing their country in a World Championship final individually as well as in a team.

The official launch of the tournament and tee off will be held on 6 June 2012 at the prestigious Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club. There will be five handicap categories for this event.

The WGC started with one man's vision to have a world class amateur competition for golfers at all skill levels. WGC Founder Mr Sven Tumba was a Swedish sports icon himself and represented his country in 14 World Hockey Championships and 4 Olympic hockey tournaments, earning him a place in the international ice hockey hall of fame. Sven Tumba passed away on 1 October 2011 at the age of 80.

In 1995, the first World Golfers Championship was hosted at PGA National Resort and Spa in West Palm Beach, Florida and the event was officiated by golf legend Mr Arnold Palmer where he acted as WGC Tournament Patron.

WGC has been running for 17 years and the total participating countries increase each year. Total participating countries are now at 42.

Malaysia made its first move in late 2004 and the event for the Malaysian chapter was launched early 2005 at Kota Permai Golf & Country Club. A total of 12 rounds of National Qualifying and Grand Final games were staged in various golf courses nationwide.

In 2007, Malaysia played host as WGC's World Final venue. Three golf courses were selected to accommodate 420 international participants from 36 countries, namely Glenmarie Golf & Country Club, Tropicana Golf & Country Club and Templers Park Country Club.
